This year our annual jazz jam is being held at the Russian Community Center.  Come join us for Pizza, Snacks, Drinks (Yes the Bar will be OPEN) and Music, Jamming and Dancing.  If you are a singer you can come show off on a microphone.  We want to hear you!  Below is more information about the jam and a few points on jam etiquette.  Jam is free for Weekend and Dance Pass Holders.  For those without passes, the cost of the Jam $15 General Admission, $10 Savoy Swing Club Members, $5 if you bring an instrument and play.

WHEN:  SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2018 - 3-6 PM

Jam Leader – Victor Horky

Bass Player – Geoff Harper

Come to this jam to play, sing, dance or just listen and EAT PIZZA and other fantastic snacks!  Also the SSC bar will be open for the duration of the jam.

This jam will be led by professionals but very beginner friendly.  Our very own Savoy Swing Club Member, Victor Horky will be leading the jam.   As the jam leader, he will call songs and ask for song choices from the participants.  Victor will be there to support you as well as a few other more experienced players.   We also have Geoff Harper on Bass which will really support the group rhythm.  Please come and join us!

Jam leader Victor Horky will call songs.  If you have a particular song you want to do, please let Victor know.  For each song there we be 2-4 soloists.  The soloist will be asked to sit up front.  Victor will ask at the beginning of each song who wants to solo.  This will give everyone an opportunity to solo but will allow the jammers and audience to hear more songs.  This also means that if you are a beginner and you are not ready to solo, you can play along and not feel pressure to solo.

If you would like to sing, please either know the lyrics or bring them with you, and the key that you prefer to sing the song in.  Vocalists will sing the first chorus, and then the soloist will play the subsequent two choruses, and the vocalist will come in for one final chorus.  Please do not sing while the instrumentalists are soloing.  If you are not sure what all of that means, check with Jessica or Victor.

Other Jam Etiquette

The more musicians jamming, the more quietly you play.  If you are a fretted string player, please mute your strings between strums.  If you are playing any other “louder” instruments such as woodwinds or piano, please play softly and minimally when others are soloing.
