About

Savoy Swing Club (SSC) is a nonprofit organization [501(c)3] dedicated to teaching and spreading swing dancing in Seattle, hosting a weekly social dance and lessons. Formed in 1993, SSC is run and managed by a board of volunteer community members.

Mission

The mission of the Savoy Swing Club is to honor the cultural heritage and to promote the enjoyment of Black American vernacular jazz dances. To this end, SSC offers and sponsors instruction, performances, workshops, dances, and social events to people of all sexes, gender identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic statuses (class), races, ethnicities, abilities, ages, mental health statuses, educations, and sizes.

We endeavor to partner with local non-profits and provide educational arts opportunities for youth and underserved populations. We foster the artistic growth of the existing Pacific Northwest dance community by reaching new dancers, empowering existing jazz artists, and supporting swing dance venues and events.  Our ultimate goal is to bring folks together in the name of dance.

Blues Underground

Savoy Swing Club partners with and sponsors Blues Underground, another organization promoting Black vernacular dance. Blues Underground follows the SSC Code of Conduct, but makes fully independent decisions in most domains, including finances, choice of instructors and musicians, safety issues, special event programming, and community outreach.

SSC is supported by our members and through donations. Membership gives you a lot of perks, and it helps us with a predictable income stream to put on events for the community!

Donate today to enable us to continue our weekly dances and open practice nights at the Lowdown Ballroom, as well as special events like the Seattle Lindy Exchange/Seattle Lindy Extravaganza.
