Thanks for making our Haiti Fundraiser Dance on Feb 1 a huge success!
Thanks to Alex Yan and Claire Burke for their extraordinary organizing, the Careless Lovers for providing live music, everyone else who helped out and of course all of you who showed up and participated and donated money! Between the door proceeds, donations, raffle ticket sales and bake sale we raised over $1200 for Haiti!
Savoy Swing Club is dedicated to supporting the swing dance community and encourages support of charitable causes in general.
In 2009/2010 SSC held several "benefit dances" in support of the following:
-
Frankie Manning Legacy Fund
-
April 2009 - SSC held a "Frankie Tribute night" at its Monday night dance with all door proceeds donated to the Frankie Fund whose mission to preserve and promote the rich cultural, choreographic and artistic legacy of Frankie Manning and to encourage the world-wide proliferation and promotion of the music and the dance Frankie loved so much (Swing Music and the Lindy Hop).
-
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (Breast cancer)
-
July 2009 - SSC held a "Dance for the Cure" at its Monday night dance at Sonny Newman's. The event included a jack & jill competition, raffle and cake-walk. Fifty-percent of the door proceeds and all sales and donations during the evening went to Race for the Cure.
-
Lindy Hop Scholarship Fund
-
January 1 2010 - SSC requested donations instead of a cover charge for its 1st Friday Blues Underground dance. All donations went to a fund managed by SSC that provides scholarships for dancers to attend major Seattle events they otherwise would not be able to attend due to financial concerns.
